AMR
is a file compression of audio data with a variable compression ratio
(Adaptive Multi-Rate). AMR is adopted as the standard codec for 3GPP
voice, in October 1998 and is now widely used in GSM.
Many modern
mobile terminals will allow you to store recordings in the short format
AMR, and some commercial programs exist to convert to other formats
like MP3.
This format is specially prepared to compress sounds
composed of voices (talks, speeches, etc.), it is unlikely to achieve
acceptable results when working with a wider range of frequencies as
music or sounds complicated.
